"Best " route to Mt. Shasta, CA

We will be going down Hwy 101 thru Oregon in late October and then want to go over to Mt Shasta and at the same time stay clear of snow (I know a tall order) so we need to figure out what is the best road/s to take that have the least high passes and yet are OK for a 27' Class C pulling a Toad. Any & all suggestions greatly appreciated, Thanks. Fred

RE: cell phone plans and coverage while in the U.S.

We used to have "Rogers All North American Plan" and as far as coverage we had no problems, the reason we don't use use it anymore is the cost factor. We use two systems now when we are in the states, we buy a Pay-As-You-Go phone when down there and we have found for us that "Net10" is the one we have the greatest success with and also with net10 we can call into Canada for the same rate as calling anywhere in the States.
And the other system that we use is "Skype" and we have the plan called "Unlimited US & Canada" which cost us 2.95 per month for unlimited calls to ANY landline and cell phone in the US & Canada no matter where we are (beleive me this one get used alot!!)
As far as Verizon or ATT or any other US phone Company they require a US
address and most of the time a US credit card plus a contract so that is why we do it this way.
Hope this helps and if you need further explanation just email me and if you want to include your phone number I can call and see I can make it clearer. Fred

I was going to post on this also. seems like it would be great if you have to use a public computer, etc. would also have been great when I worked at places that didn't want you to install your own programs on their PCs.
but read the small print, I almost spent more to get an upgrade where they would store x mgs of stuff for you as backup. then I discovered yep that was good for a few months, then they would charge you.

Bumpy I'm not sure what you mean about an" upgrade & storing messages"
I just store all the info that I want on the flashdrive and that is all I need to do, I also have my flashdrive password protected.
Please explain what you mean as I might be missing something, Fred

RE: Clogged fresh water!

One idea would be to disconnect the waterline as close to the tank as possible and blow LOW pressure air towards the tank and see if you could remove what ever is plugging it (probably some minerals from the water and seeing that you pumped it dry).

RE: Underframe tire carrier or ?

Well I've considered all the ideas and have crawled under the motorhome and did a lot of measuring and have come to the conclusion that it's not going to work, ie: after measuring the width of the tire/wheel it is going to hang down too far to make it practical and unable to get it up in between the frame rails as storage and tanks take up that space.
SO I'm back to the drawing boards of trying to design a rack that will fit in between the motorhome and the tow bar.
Thanks to all that contributed, Fred

Underframe tire carrier or ?

Has anyone moved their spare tire under their Class C and if so how did you do it.
On mine they placed it inside a compartment which means a lot of lost space. I can't put it on the back bumper as that is part of the molded rear. I also tow a car so that means I can't also put it on a tire carrier that fits into the rear hitch.
Any ideas would be really appreciated, Thanks Fred

RE: Want basic cell phone

I presume you will be using it in the US. When we go to to the states for the winter we use our "NET10" phone and last winter we covered most of the states from east to west as well as down in the southern states and had excellent reception in almost all areas. And yes can get a "plain jane" phone from them. We picked ours up at Walmart for $20 and that included airtime and when we go back down this fall we will just reactivate. Here is there web page:

RE: 2007 ION Fuse #41

Ian, I have a 2006 Saturn ION and that square fuse is a 40 amp fuse and when I called the fellow that sells made up fuse switches he would not recommend them for a 40 amp fuse, so I have been removing it every time I tow it and found that the cover for the fuse box is so close to a bunch of wiring that is up on the right corner of the cover that is a real challenge so I am also looking for an alternative, so I will be watching for a remedy as well. RE: Class C Rv mileage

Last fall/winter we traveled 6550 mi./10664 Km and kept a accurate log on fuel. Over the complete trip also towing our toad (06 Saturn Ion ) we averaged 7.9 miles/gal. Our rig is a 2003 27 ft. on a E450 frame with a 6.8 liter V10 as can be seen in our profile (less the snow).

RE: Canadians: which cell phone for both countries?

Hi Kelly, Let me give you a short story of what we found. Last fall/winter we traveled in the states for six month including all eastern states, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada Utah Idaho and Montana for a total of 28,000Km. In previous years we would change our Rogers phone over to "All North American Plan" so that we could use it down south without roaming charges. The problem was that cost was ridiculous. So we decided to pick up a "Pay as you Go' once we where across the border. We entered the states in Maine and got a TracFone and that turned out to be a mistake as we had a lot of problem getting it activated, finally getting a Net10 phone at Walmart and That worked out really great. Although both phones are owned by the same Company they are worlds apart in what the offer. with Net10 we had no problems with calling back to Canada when ever we wanted and it also has a added feature that allows people in Canada to call you with no extra charges. We found the "Customer Service" left a lot to be desired but that is not any different then all other cell phone companies that we have dealt with. We also had really decent coverage where ever we traveled, and a another plus was the rates where very reasonable. So there you have our experience. Oh and when we go back south next fall we will just buy some more minutes and reactivate it.
Take a look at there web page to get a better idea of what the are about, we bought our phone & minutes at Walmart.

convert lcd monitor to use as tv

There was a article about converting a lcd computer monitor to use as a tv a couple of months back. I have done a search but came up empty.
I have a spare monitor (Samsung 710v ) and would like to use it as a tv set.
Am I just dreaming or does anybody else remember the article?
Thanks in advance, Fred

RE: Help with SKYPE, please

Yes 2.95/month is what you pay for unlimited calls to landline/cell phones in US & Canada. We have been using it for about three years that way. As others have said if you are experiencing garbelled voice and of video freezes from computer to computer then you will have the same problem to landlines. The main problems come from weak signals when using wifi or equipment problems( headphones, mikes or webcams). but most of the time we find it very good. Hope this helps, Fred

RE: Best bet for a screen room?

This is the company that we purchased our Add-A-Room (California Room) from.
http://www.bestrvinc.com/
We have used it on our fifthwheel and now on our Motorhome. We have the one that has the snapless side panels.when we needed an extra front panel so that we could adapt it to the longer awning, they where great to deal with. Also found there price was much better then the local dealers.
We have used it for seven years all together and it is still in great shape.

Check out the picture in my profile ,that is the room up during a snow storm (not our best day of camping)

RE: Atwood Bowen g6a-4e water heater ...Help!!!!

On my motorhome the switch is under the kitchen cabinet above the counter.
It is a red rocker switch that lights up when the igniter goes on.
